SMU Mock Trial
Founded in 2000, Southern Methodist University’s Mock Trial Program is an organization that strives to help undergraduate students be successful in competition by developing their skills in legal analysis and oral advocacy. Each year, thirty students compete in three to five invitational, regional, and national tournaments in hopes of winning the national title. This past year, the program qualified all three teams for the Opening Round Championship Tournament and won a total of 12 individual awards earning itself a place in the top 10% of Mock Trial programs nationwide. As part of SMU’s Communication Studies Department, Mock Trial not only strives to do well in competition, but also to provide its students with the work ethic, critical thinking skills, and leadership experience necessary to be successful in a wide variety of professions. Throughout their time in the organization students achieve great personal success and develop friendships that will last a lifetime.
